VFSBackup

VFSBackup allows you to backup some or all of the databases in your PDA to a VFS (Virtual File System) compatible memory card. Backups can be scheduled to be performed at a given time every day, or you can perform a backup when you require it. This is the 30 day demo version of the program, it is copyright © James Screech 2002. Please feel free to distribute this version to friends and colleagues.

VFSBackup requires PalmOS PDA that supports the VFS standard and about 25K of free memory.

How to use VFSBackup.

It is advisable to keep the VFSBackup application on your memory card and as well as in main memory. That way if you lose the whole contents of your main memory you can still use the application to restore your last backup.
Note: If VFSBackup is kept soley on a memory card (not in main memory) scheduled backups will not be performed, this is due to a limitation of PalmOS; in that it will not send alarm signals to applications on memory cards.

Selecting databases to backup: Use the menu option File | Backup... to display a form containing a list of all the databases in main RAM. Select the databases you wish to backup either individually by tapping on their names or by tapping on the "All" (or "None") buttons. Then tap on "OK".
Setting a backup schedule: Use the menu option File | Schedule... to display the backup schedule form. You can toggle between a scheduled backup and no scheduled backup. Use the two lists on the left side of the form to set the time for the scheduled backup. You can perform a backup immediately by tapping on the "Backup now" button. Tap on "Close" to return to the main application form. Tapping on the arrow on the main form has the same effect as the "Backup now" button on the backup schedule form.
Restoring data: Use the menu option File | Restore... to view a list of databases that have been backed up. Select those you wish to restore in the same way that you selected which databases to backup, then tap on "OK". The selected databases will then be restored overwriting any existing databases with the same names.
Viewing the log: Use the menu option File | View Log... to view a log of the last backup or restore operation. Tap on the "Export" button to copy the log into a Memo Pad memo. The log is also automatically shown after a restore operation and after a backup performed using either of the "Backup now" buttons.
